  Cigarette Smoking is arguably a main cause of death in around the world today. It is the cause of 30% of all cancers. One of the type of cancer caused by smoking is lung cancer, it is one of the most deadly types of cancer. Cigarette smoking causes cancer, but it is also responsible for many other types of diseases related to other parts of the body including the circulatory system etc. Smoking cigarettes can also harm those near a smoker and this is called as passive smoking. Smoking can also harm the unborn child if the pregnant mother is a smoker.
  

   

  The main thing in cigarette smoking that causes cancer are substances called as carcinogens. Carcinogen actually means cancer-causing. Surely we have heard a substance called a nicotine. Yes Cigarettes also contain a substance called as nicotine. And nicotine does not cause cancer. Nicotine is a substance in cigarettes that makes the smoker addicted to cigarettes. Cigarettes also contain a substance known as Tar, which is one of the many carcinogenic substances. Tar actually contains more than 4,000 types of chemical substances.

  Carcinogens affect the most important part of a cell, its DNA. The damaged DNA in cancer cells causes other cells to grow and makes new cells in a way that is not at all proper and healthy, and the rate of cell production is out of control. Damaged cells make new damaged cells that can spread throughout the body causing death.
