Teamwork and Leadership

  • The main difference between an individual and a team is that an individual is independent and where as a team is interdependent. An individual will always have his or her own limitations. Where as in a team their are multiple members and by helping each other the accomplishments are greater. Togetherness and concern for each other is the key to success. When the need arises, a member out of the team takes on the role of the leader. The power of encouragement from within is so
    strong that nothing is impossible.

It is always good to be individually brilliant, but unless you are able to work in a team and harness each other's core competencies, you will always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you will do poorly and someone else does better than you.

If we stop competing against some rival and instead if we start competing against the current situation, we can perform far better.
Here is an example of the above mentioned statement. "When Roberto Goizueta took over as CEO of Coca-Cola in 1980's, he was faced with intense competition from Pepsi that was growing at a very high rate. Coca-Cola was loosing its market share to Pepsi. Roberto Goizueta's executives were focused on dealing with this problem.
They were intent on increasing market share by 0.1 per cent a time.
Roberto decided to stop competing against Pepsi and instead compete against the situation of 0.1 per cent growth. To achieve this
he asked his executives what was the average fluid intake of an United States per day and the answer was 14 ounces.

Coke's share to this was just two ounces. Roberto decided that Coke needed a larger market share. So they decided that the public should reach for a Coke whenever they felt like drinking something. To this end problem, Coke put up vending machines at every street. And it worked out, the sales took a huge leap.
