GSI About to Develop Four Tourist Spots in Tamil Nadu

DELHI, India - Sept. 15, 2015 - PRLog -- As stated by the Times of India, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) is about to develop 4 new sites as tourist spots in Tamil Nadu, which includes Perambalur and Ariyalur. Other sites include Sathanoor’s National Fossil Wood Park and 2 places in Karaikulakanatham, which are known for maintaining and preserving the several million years old tree trunks and Kambium. These places will soon become tourist attractions very soon. The GSI in co-operation with the district administration & department of tourism planned to develop these diminishing parks.

The wood park is considered to have coniferous trees. The GSI maintained a mini museum inside the park which is visited by the research scholars only, requires promotion to receive tourists. Age old rocks around 120 million years old are found in Ariyalur and Perambalur districts.

It was in 1940 that Dr M.S. Krishnan of the GSI reported about the fossil trees at first. The fossilized trees were not protected carefully as there were no fences. It was after the District Collector, Darez Ahmed ordered for the fences that the trees were surrounded with a barricade made of bamboo trees and pointed wires.

Dr. S Raju, Deputy Director General of GSI inspected Sathanoor and  the surrounding regions of Perambalur and Ariyalur, declared that GIS will work to preserve and develop these sites along with the department of tourism and district administration to make them popular spots for tourism.

He added that the footfalls to these spots will be increased by construction of arch & approach roads along with setting up of information. After a prior discussion with all the departments, a revenue model will be generated said Dr. Raju. In addition, he said that a sum of 5 crore Indian currency will be required to complete this project.
