This topic is a long-standing international debate among medical experts, magistrates and government officers. Pro-marijuana would argue that its use should be legalized because of its medicinal benefits. Anti-marijuana would contradict, on the other hand, that legalizing it would only encourage addiction among users.
Unknown to many people, since marijuana was discovered over 4,000 years ago in Asia, it has been used for medicinal purposes worldwide. In fact, there are many undocumented medical uses of marijuana. California in USA was the first to initiate the movement to legalize marijuana in 1996.
To date, marijuana is known for its ability to help patients alleviate pain, and certain disabilities, illnesses and diseases. Medical researchers have also found out that marijuana may effectively treat symptoms associated with cancer, chronic pains associated with HIV and aids, anorexia, migraine, headache, glaucoma, epilepsy, nausea and other chronic illnesses.
Moreover, marijuana is a potential treatment for arthritis, PMS, Bipolar Disorder, Tourette Syndrome, ADD, ADHD, Insomnia, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
While I do not condone addiction, I think it is high time that we explore the hundreds other medicinal value of marijuana. There is no problem in legalizing its use. The only problem I see is how unscrupulous people will use such law authorizing its use and distribution to benefit from people who would tend to abuse using it.
