Actress Poorna Jagannathanis one of the Ad producer and daughter of a diplomat has opened up about the Sexual Abuse as a girl.
In the video of World Bank project WEvolve, ‘The Delhi’ actress has given an emotional speech as she to deal with an alcoholic father and at the age of 9 how she had suffered sexual abuse from a family friend.
In this video Poorna said, "My childhood was bit of a roller-coaster, it was a very privileged childhood, very fairy tale childhood, many aspects especially on paper. My father suffered from alcoholism. We were told to keep situation under the wraps as mush as possible".
She said, "My first encounter with sexual violence was probably when I was 9. There was a neighbour and family friend who got his hands on me. He obviously told me not to tell anyone.”
She continued, "...I have encountered so many situation as a child and as a young adult. They were violent but I wouldn't speak about it. There was a code that you wouldn't talk about it".
Poorna is best known for initiating ‘Nirbhaya’ play which is done by Yael Faber and produced by herself. This film has won Amnesty International Award in the year 2013.
Earlier Kalki Kaoechlin, Deepika Padukone and Somy Ali has raised their voice for violence on women.
