`David` has more to it than just intimacy: Monica Dogra

After “Dhobi Ghat”, Monica Dogra is eagerly looking forward to the release of her new film “David”, but feels sad that the buzz around her intimate scenes with co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh is taking away the essence of the film.

“I think it is sad when it (intimate scenes) trumps the rest of the film. I think sexuality and intimacy under wraps is more appealing. The scenes have been done in a classy way and the film has a lot more to showcase,” she told in an interview.

Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, “David” would be Monica’s second outing after 2011 film “Dhobi Ghat”. And the actress says she was waiting for the right script to come her way.

“I was waiting for a film, which spoke to me and I really wanted to do this film when I heard the script. Bejoy is a dream director and this character will help me surprise my audience and fanbase. In fact, I surprised myself in the film,” she said.

Monica, who plays the role of a Muslim girl called Noor, said she has learnt a lot during the making of the film.

“I spoke in Urdu in the film. My scope for human experience expanded and I can relate to a different time and religion now. ‘David’ for me is a dream project and I do think that a lot of people will like it. It is not like any commercial film which has been made before,” she said.

The actress said she is looking to doing some exciting yet challenging work. After “David”, which releases Feb 1, her next release is “Fireflies”.

“I am trying to do work which excites me. I am trying to challenge myself and grow. That is how I saw ‘David’ too,” said Monica, who is a singer too.

As a singer, Monica was seen in television music show “The Dewarists” and feels that music has grown a lot in India.

“The scope for independent music in India is huge. TV and films are important medium to connect to a larger audience and it also helps in building an audience in India. The growth is exponential,” she said.
