    McMaster University, founded in 1887, is one of the four universities in Canada that are included in the list of top 100 universities in the world. The university is well known for its high quality of education and revolutionary scientific discoveries.     History


    The university was founded as a part of the educational activities of Baptists in central Canada in the mid-19th century. It is named after Senator William McMaster (1811 - 1887), who bequeathed a substantial sum of money to create a "Christian educational institution". The university was approved in 1887 in accordance with the Resolution of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The University is located in the residence "McMaster Hall" in Toronto and initially it offered courses in the humanities and theology. The first program with the assignment of a scientific degree was opened in 1890, the first graduates were awarded the degree in 1894.


     


     Ratings and academic specialization


    Only four Canadian university are included in the rating of the best universities in the world, and McMaster University among them (Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2014 year, and the rating of the world universities according to the Times 2014). The university is not only one of the most successful research centers, also the great importance is the quality of teaching and services provided to students. McMaster University has become a model of the education system, based on the students' needs, addressing the challenges and interdisciplinary approach. The university is ranked seventh in the list of 50 research universities in Canada (the rating Research Infosource, October 2014) and it includes more than 50 research centers and institutes. McMaster University is the only institution in North America of the International Water Resources, Environment and Health of the United Nations University (MSVROSZ - UNU).


     


    Location and Transportation


    Hamilton - the ninth largest city in Canada, the fourth - in the province of Ontario. It is also included in the list of the top 10 Canadian cities for business. Hamilton is located in Niagara Highlands, just 45 minutes' drive from Toronto and the US border.


    The territory of the main university campus has numerous hiking and biking trails. The campus is also located close to public transport.
